Before becoming an actor at the age of 39, Peter Coyote spent 15 years in the counter-culture of the 60's. Coyote wrote a memoir of that time called "Sleeping Where I Fall". It has sold 5 hardback printings and is in its second paperback edition. "Carla's Story" a chapter from the book, won the Pushcart Prize for Excellence in Non-Fiction in 1993/1994.

Tall, dark, saturnine actor equally at home in sinister or sympathetic roles. A veteran of San Francisco's local theater scene, he began his movie career in 1980's Die Laughing allegedly choosing his screen name after a healing spiritual encounter with ... you guessed it, a coyote. He snagged supporting roles in Tell Me a Riddle (1980), The Pursuit of D. B. Cooper and Southern Comfort (both 1981) before playing the mysterious scientist billed as "Keys" in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982). It was hardly a star-making characterization, and Coyote continued his screen career in low key. But his obvious ability (and the duality of his screen presence) eventually won him a number of in teresting roles-some leads, some supporting parts. Coyote's no rubber-stamp leading man, and one always suspects that his next film will be the one that makes everybody sit up and take notice of him. Coyote has also appeared in many madefor-TV movies and miniseries and does commercial voice-overs. |  |
