	| Mine: | VERY powerful. Long and intense. I almost left the theatre. Great performances all around. Seems to give you a bit of the sense of what war is really like. |

	| Leonard Maltin/Plot synopsis: | Trenchant WW2 drama about an Army captain (Hanks) assigned to take his squad of seven men into France, locate a private whose three brothers have been killed in combat... and give him a ticket home. Conventional elements in the script are balanced by a genuinely complex examination of heroism on the field, and overpowered by the most realistic, relentlessly harrowing battle footage ever shot for a fiction film. Spielberg (aided immeasurably by cameraman Janusz Kaminski and a superb creative team) has created the ultimate vision of war as hell on earth. |
