Arresting British actor who has contributed strong comic and dramatic performances to a number of offbeat films. Grant moved to London in 1982 and worked in the theater and on British TV before receiving attention in a short film about advertising called Honest, Decent and True This led to the leading role as an unemployed actor in writer-director Bruce Robinson's chamber comedy Withnail and I (1987) and also in Robinson's next film, How to Get Ahead in Advertising (1989), in which Grant starred as an ad executive who develops a talking boil on his shoulder. Grant was also prominently featured in Mountains of the Moon (1990), Henry & June (1990, as Anaïs Nin's husband), and Warlock (1991, as a heroic warrior). He was memorably paired with Sandra Bernhard in the megabomb Hudson Hawk (1991), and gave sly comic performances in L.A. Story (1991, as perhaps his most "normal" character to date) and Robert Altman's The Player (1992). He then won the meaty role of Dr. Seward in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) and played a society gadfly in The Age of Innocence (1993).
