Michael Caine Scroll down for movie list. Biography
Height 6' 2"
Born Maurice Mickelwhite in London, Caine was the son of a fish-market porter and a charlady. He left school at fifteen and took a series of working-class jobs before serving with the British Army in Korea, whre he saw combat. Upon his return to England, he gravitated toward the theatre and got a job as an assistant stage manager. He adopted the name of Caine on the advice of his agent, taking it from a "Caine Mutiny" marquee. In the years that followed, he worked in more than 100 television dramas, with repertory companies throughout England and eventually in the stage hit, "The Long and the Short and the Tail," as Peter O'Toole's understudy, a role he later assumed on tour. The 1964 African adventure film "Zulu" brought Caine to international attention. Instead of being typecast as a Cockney soldier, he played an effete, aristocratic officer. Although "Zulu" was a major success, it was his title role as "Alfie" that made Caine a star of the first magnitude. He epitomized the new breed of actor in mid-sixties England, the working-class bloke with glasses and a down-home accent. In over forty films Caine has continued to stretch his range. His credits include "The Ipcress File," "Gambit," "Hurry Sundown," "Funeral in Berlin," "Billion Dollar Brain," "Woman Times Seven," "Deadfall," "The Magnus," "Play Dirty," "The Battle of Britain," "Too Late the Hero," "Kidnapped," "The Black Windmill," "The Wilby Conspiracy," "The Man Who Would Be King," "Harry and Walter Go to New York," "The Eagle Has Landed," "A Bridge Too Far," "California Suite," "Victory," "Dressed to Kill," "Deathtrap," "Beyond the Limit" and the upcoming "Jigsaw Man" with Sir Laurence Oliver. Caine, who loves the heat and laid-back feeling of Los Angeles, lives there now with his wife Shakira and their daughter Natasha "up in the hills with the deer and coyotes and squirrels and rabbits and God knows what else." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Spouse Shakira Caine (8 January 1973 - present); 1 daughter Patricia Haines (1955 - 1958); 1 daughter ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Trivia
